As the 2012 US Open fast approaches, the media will begin to analyze the state of American men’s tennis. Andre Agassi and Pete Sampras were iconic male American tennis figures who won a combined 22 Grand Slam championships. Nowadays, it seems impossible for any American to advance deep into a major, let alone take home some hardware.

Just to inform all American tennis fans, there are currently nine US players in the top 100 in the world (see below). From where the United States was in terms of world domination in tennis before the turn of the century, “Slump” is the only word that can describe the state of the men’s game.

John Isner is the top ranked American male tennis player.

If more players take private tennis lessons at Scarborough East Tennis in Columbus, Ohio maybe that number will skyrocket! (Shameless self-promotion).

Top ranked American male tennis players:

10.) John Isner
21.) Andy Roddick
24.) Mardy Fish
28.) Sam Querrey
61.) Ryan Harrison
70.) Bryan Baker
76.) Jesse Levine
80.) Donald Young
98.) Rajeev Ram
