It has been stated in numerous articles, scientific journals and studies that suggest that tennis may be one of the best sports for maintaining physical and mental health. This peaked our interest and made us want to know more about the sport that has been keeping people healthy and happy for their entire life. Here are three reasons why tennis is considered one of the best sports to play:

1) According to Dr. Jim Gavin, author of The Exercise Habit, tennis players develop more positive personality traits over their lifetimes as opposed to people who play golf, inline skate, cycle or run. This also attributes to tennis players having lower rates of depression, anxiety and anger.

2) Continuing with mental health, tennis promotes nerve growth in brain due to the reaction time it takes to serve and return the ball. Development of these nerve pathways in the brain keeps tennis players mentally sound and reduces the chances of mind degenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s.

3) In terms of physical health, competitive tennis burns more calories than other aerobic exercises like cycling and jogging. Also the tactical aspect of the game makes players more athletic and have quick reaction times.

For these reasons it is no surprise that tennis is an international favorite. While other sports and activities promote similar physical fitness, none can compete with tennis on the fact it provides emotional and mental fitness as well. “We have some of the happiest people that come here to play and stay active,” stated Bob Hilborn, Head Pro at Scarborough East Tennis.  I’m thrilled that I get to be apart of it everyday”
