How to Get Your Kids Started with Tennis!

Now that you’ve had some time to get settled into your back-to-school routine, it’s time to start thinking about some great after-school activities to keep your kids busy, healthy, and of course, happy. We’re here to suggest what other than… Tennis! Whether your child has never picked up a racket or they’re a regular tennis star, at Scarborough East Tennis, we have great Junior programs for all ages and levels.

We provide a complete multi-level Junior Program with 250-300 juniors in our program ranging from the beginner to collegiate level. We are recognized for high quality programming and our vision is for all juniors to achieve their goals!

So why is tennis a great activity for your kids? There are tons of reasons, but here are a few of our favorites:

  • Tennis is a competitive sport and will help teach children how to handle pressure, stay focused, and be competitive. It helps to build not only a strong, flexible body, but will also help your child build the mindset of a winner. Tennis actually outperforms golf and most other sports in developing positive personality characteristics.
  • Tennis is a great sport for unfit children struggling with obesity, high blood pressure, and/or cholesterol. By moving constantly, your child will burn calories which will help them lose weight and stay fit. Competitive tennis burns more calories than aerobics or cycling.
  • Since tennis requires alertness and tactical thinking, it may generate new connections between nerves in the brain and promote a lifetime of continuing development of the brain.
  • Children’s tennis is one of the best games for developing coordination in all areas of the body. A child will learn how to focus and concentrate on the ball while developing fast footwork and flexibility of the upper body. Tennis is the perfect sport for conditioning the motor reflexes of the body.
  • Most importantly, tennis is fun! Your kids will love picking out a racket and outfit to play in and it gives them something to look forward to every week. It also is a very healthy way to burn off energy.
