OUR MISSION
Deliver exceptional tennis experiences through top-tier facilities, unmatched value, and a community built on lasting relationships.
Where Innovation Meets Community
At Scarborough East, we’ve spent five decades building something special: a place where cutting-edge facilities meet genuine community, where competitive excellence blends with family atmosphere, and where members become part of a legacy.
WHAT SETS US APART
Innovators
First tennis club in Columbus to integrate pickleball. First in Ohio to install PlaySight technology. First to implement USTA 10-and-under court lines. Our serving machine, top-of-the-line ball machines, and streaming capabilities give members access to training tools you won’t find anywhere else in town.
World-Class Instruction
Our Certified Pro Staff brings experience from every level of competitive tennis. Kelly Story, former Ohio State captain. Blaine Carr, Division I player and two-time conference sportsmanship award winner. Linda, who’s been developing players here for decades. This isn’t just about credentials—it’s about character.

Junior Development with Purpose
We’ve produced elite players in our junior program who’ve ranked in the top 50 in the world and competed at the highest levels. But our proudest achievement? The junior players who return as adults and make tennis a lifelong passion.
We’re competitive and push our players to be their best. But we’re more focused on building character than building rankings—because the lessons learned through tennis shape the adults our juniors become.
Tennis Meets Pickleball
When other clubs said tennis and pickleball couldn’t coexist, we proved them wrong. Scarborough East was the first tennis club in Columbus to successfully integrate both sports, keeping play separated across our two banks of courts to maximize opportunities for both communities.

Our Story
Scarborough East opened in 1974 during the tennis boom. When that boom ended abruptly in the early 1980s—when Columbus went from ten tennis clubs to just five in a single year—we survived.
Our current owner, Bob Hilborn, arrived in 1980 as an intern while earning his master’s degree in sports administration from Ohio State. That temporary position became a 45-year career. After running the club for nearly three decades under previous ownership, Bob assembled a group of investors and purchased majority ownership in 2010, then full ownership in 2019.
Since taking ownership, we’ve transformed the facility: all-new LED lighting, complete court renovations, new insulation throughout, major roof renovation, and parking lot upgrades. The philosophy has been clear—reinvest in the facility, build the brand, protect the future.
Our Members, Our Legacy
We celebrated our 50th anniversary in 2024. The number of members who’ve been with us since 1974—or who’ve taken lessons from the same pro for fifteen, twenty years—is remarkable. That loyalty doesn’t happen by accident. It happens when you consistently deliver value, maintain genuine relationships, and create a place people are proud to call their tennis home.
